VW Bugs@ Sick Summer 2024
Sick Summer 2024 was a blast. This was my first attempt at a drag and drag and now I am hooked. A big thank you to my daughter Emily who did a wonderful job at co-piloting and also did a spectacular job running my cameras. without her I would have not been able to do this.

Will Simon run a 11 second Pass? (Euro Fest 16 Summer Bug run}
Hey man, A great video. We have a similar event here in Australia. Drag challenge. But I'm looking forward to seeing what happens to Simon . So, thanks for sharing ✌️ Peace from Melbourne Australia.
@@kevinhamling1963 thanks for watching, keep cruising and enjoy the ride 😎🚗🚙🚗
We are also loyal to royal. Tried an MSC in Europe last year and we were not fans. We also did a Baltics for 11 nights on Voyager of the Seas a couple of years ago and LOVED it.
We will also be doing a 11 night Panama cruise soon on the explorer of the Sea's which is another Voyager class ship. I think we will have one left since we have already been on the adventure and navigator of the Sea's. Thanks for watching and keep cruising 😎🚢🛳️🚢
@@ddk56vw we have another Voyager of the Seas out of Athens later this year for 9 nights. Have fun, I have always wanted to do a Panama Canal cruise.
@@sjhanksaz a Mediterranean cruise is definitely on our bucket list 🛳️🚢🛳️
Great video. Sorry you didn't make the entire week. Hope you get it figured out.
Thanks, yes, I have figured out a few of the problems and hope to bring you guys an updated video soon. Keep cruising and enjoy the ride.
Nice! Maybe I will do this next time…😮
Looks like a lot of fun 😍
What a Beautifull thing to see.I live it guys.
Great vid, man. Looks like a lot of fun.
It's miserable, exhausting while being fun and exciting all rolled up in one 😎
Thanks for the video. Subscribed. I am slowly working on converting my super pro bug back to the street for this.
Thanks for watching, good luck with the conversion and thanks for subscribing 😎
Wonderful recap of events, and so good to see Prescott is still doing his thing! I remember him back in the 90s when we were in the MAVWC. So glad to see the learning process, and that VW performance is still fun! I miss it!
I install a "windage tray" in all of my engine builds . It does a good job of keeping the oil at the bottom of the case . The crank and rod assembly seems to always try to "whip" the oil up from the bottom of the case . They only cost around $15-20 dollars and they work .
I got tired of looking at you talking about the ship I thought you were going to SHOW us the ship
Bug pack cam?
Just curious did the ship especially your cabin smell musty? This ship had flooding end of January 2024 . Thank you
No, and I was a little worried about that. Our room and our daughters were just fine.
If you've ever removed all the factory galley plugs you would find some with a very long aluminium plug on the number 4 pulley end main bearing. This closes off most of the drilling leading to the bearing. This could be why you had a restricted flow from number 4. This may be deliberate by the factory so as to not have as much oil spraying next to the unsealed pulley. I haven't seen a failure solely at this bearing ever in an automotive application, so the lesser quantity of oil here is probably ok.
This is probably the reason the guy that used to machine my cases told me not to mess with that bearing 😎
Good luck.
Nice! 😍
I’m not saying you’re from the Midwest but I feel like I know a Midwest accent when I hear one! Hello from WI!
How'd neighbor, Michigan is part of the Midwest and we do talk funny especially on the other side of the bridge 😂

Hey, good luck with Sick Summer. On your opening video, what rims do you have on the rear (race wheels) Also what size are they?
I'm not 100% sure of the brand since they were something I scored on eBay years ago. If I were to guess I'd say Ercos. Unfortunately I don't think they are around anymore. They are 15" by 6" I think. They were something a buggy guy was running.
Get a little aluminum hydraulic harbor tool jack before you have a heart attack 😂
I have two of those 1 1/2 ton jacks, and believe me if I was using a trailer I would take one. I just don't know how I would haul it otherwise 😁🤠
Try Freeall you will never waste your money on PB blaster again.
I'll look into it. I have had great luck with PB unfortunately I hate the smell. Does Freeall smell better?
Proper definition of deck height is the distance from the crown of the piston at TDC to the deck of the combustion chamber. .040 is an efficient distance.
What if after all that you have a manifold leak and the motor rums like crap from sucking air, yes its possible, it you are gonna use used manifolds always place then in a vice and file the aluminum down completely flat with a fine file to prevent leaks as these do warp a lot
I use a 80 grit sanding disk stuck to a flat surface and run the intake across it until flat then finish with 120 grit🤠
10:54 Actually opening the IDA
Wow!!
Is it true you need to "seat" the cylinder sleaves to the cylinder head by lapping them like you would a valve?
Only if the cylinders and heads have been run before. If you have new clean cylinders and fresh machine heads you should be fine not lapping them.
Your information is incorrect. There is a capacity 6,780.
PTFE is the way to go! Excellent set up, more modern parts on VW’s to make them faster.
Get ripped!
thanks! helpful information
Nice!! Eventually the trans would quit with the high shock load from flat shifting. Hope you get here back together in time. Cheers
That's a sick system you're putting together
Did you get to stay there or just buzz threw
We just breezed through. Maybe some day I'll get the chance to stay there 😎
@@ddk56vw ya that looked very fancy. Perhaps someday 🤣🤣🤣 you and I both
Wow!❤
Hey…I asked you to pick up my towels and give me new ones.
Literally just got home from sailing on the the harmony of the sea, 4/21-4/28. it sails out of Galveston Tx, it has a capacity of 5,000 passengers, nice cruise, also visited roatan, coasta maya and Cozumel. Fun but not my thing.
That's a big and busy ship. Plenty to do and all the hot dogs you can eat😄. I love those Oasis class ships 🚢🛳️🚢
The old disk and pressure plate are seated, after a few miles the new setup should improve
Can you share any details on the large washer you used to push the seal in with?

Hi. I have a 57 ragtop that I've efi turbo'd as well. I'd like to see what you used for a muffeler. I currently have the 8" downtibe from CB, but its just too loud to enjoy driving. Thank you in advance.

This is a better look at my tail pipe. I don't run a muffler but it is longer than 8" and points out the back of the car instead of down. ruclips.net/video/XnjZGTWAYig/видео.htmlsi=ElHx0jhQu3NzV0VD

Glad you’re still making videos, thanks for the help
Oasis of the Seas has a max capacity of 6700, not 4500. Triple the size of Enchantment. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oasis_of_the_Seas
I said passengers, not capacity. Shipmate now states that she holds 5400 passengers and 2300 crew.
Definitely want to get some rubber isolation mounts for the fuel pump. Nice work.
For noise reasons or mechanical?
I also wrapped mine in some kil-mat
Marine offshore ultrasound gas sending unit. No moving parts.
Do you have a link?
Always appreciate your videos. They are very informative and have been helpful as I have been learning how to work on my own vw. I will be installing an electric fuel pump to my bug soon and one thing I can’t figure out is to where I should connect my 12v supply to the pump. Is there circuit that is better than others? Also, I purchased one of those relays that shut the pump off with the loss of engine rotation, have you used one of these before?
@@jefferyroberts9928 Thanks for watching and I am glad I can help. I have had my cars fuel pumps wired a few different ways throughout the years. I believe the first electric pump I used was just a simple clicker pump and I just wired it to the ignition switch so when the key was on the pump would run. I then put a toggle switch in-between the pump and key so I could shut off the pump so I could run the fuel out of the carbs when it came time to store the car. Now since I am running a EFI pump the pump is wired to the ECU. No, I have never run that relay you mentioned. Thanks for watching.
@@ddk56vw Thank you for the quick response. Didn’t think about running a cutout switch. That may help with theft as well if I put it in an inconspicuous location. Thanks again.
Nice job with pulling it together. I'd like to line bore my case but can't find or trust tools they might have. SW mi.
